I was wondering what the coffee situation is like. Do most families drink coffee in the morning, or if they don't, are coffee shops prevalent? I know it is an odd question, but I am a bit of an addict. Thanks!
coffee coffee coffee... great question! Most host families will have instant coffee available (and they'll drink it- and strong.) In Budapest, there is a shop called "California Coffee" which is a Starbucks knock-off, but other than that, the local stuff is great.
You're in luck -- coffee culture is pretty strong in Hungary and Slovakia, so most host families will have lots of coffee on hand. They'll most likely have an espresso machine but not an American-style coffee machine. They should also have instant coffee available -- there are lots of varieties! Let your host family know how much you love coffee, and your host mother will most likely be happy to make you some every morning.
